Unveiling Hidden Gems: Capturing Personalities in a Quaint Secret Location
When a client asks me about doing a family session, one of the first questions I generally ask is "do you have a place in mind for the session?" After this question, the conversation goes back and forth until we nail down the best spot. With some sessions, I want to find a place that is extra special and unique.
The irony of this spot is that I found it on Facebook through a mutual friend who posts morning strolls around his neighborhood. Every morning, he takes a walk and takes pictures of the beautiful scenery. I reached out to him and asked that awkward question, "would you let me use your land for pictures?" Of course, he was more than happy to let us use him.
I set off to go find this spot with my four-year-old. The further down the dirt roads we went, he got a little concerned that we were lost. The GPS was guiding us over old-fashioned bridges, past an old church and down some roads that not many people have been down during their lifetime.
Whenever we made it to this oasis, I really wanted to stay forever. White picket fences, lean-to barns, and oak trees were surrounding us. It smelled fresh with a hint of honeysuckle in the air. I knew this place would be perfect for what this client was asking for in our initial conversation.
I had the family meet me at our church and then had them follow me to this spot. I actually told the family to "trust me" on following me. I didn't want them to be worried like my child did on the first trip. We were able to capture many good spots on this man's property. Although we did have to dodge a couple of cow patties and ant beds, this place had some unique beauty to boast about as I clicked the camera. It was a breath of Heaven showing God's Masterpiece - untouched from the bustle of human hands.
Together, we made some beautiful pictures that day! Will I go back to this spot one day, absolutely! |
